Wholesale Turkish Carpets and Rugs: A Buyer's Guide for Gulf Retailers
Super Admin2 min read

Turkey is one of the world's largest carpet exporters, and Gaziantep alone is home to a dense cluster of machine-made carpet factories. Gulf retailers buy everything from affordable printed rugs to dense, heat-set polypropylene and polyester designs, plus handmade kilims and wall-to-wall carpet for projects.
Know the main product types
Machine-woven rugs: the bulk of Turkish exports, made on Wilton or face-to-face looms in polypropylene, polyester, acrylic, viscose or wool blends.
Printed rugs: digitally printed on a flat base, often washable and good for fast-changing designs.
Wall-to-wall carpet and carpet tiles: for homes, hotels, offices and mosques, sold by the square metre.
Handmade kilims and rugs: smaller volumes, higher value, sourced from workshops and specialist traders.
Specify quality, not just design
Two rugs with the same design can differ greatly in price. Ask suppliers to confirm:
Pile yarn material and whether it is heat-set
Pile density (points per square metre) and pile height
Total weight per square metre
Backing type, such as jute, cotton or polypropylene, and any anti-slip finish
Edge finish: overlocked, bound or fringed
Plan sizes and minimums
Gulf retailers commonly stock sizes such as 80×150, 120×180, 160×230, 200×300 cm and runners. Factories often set minimums per design and colour, or per container, so plan a size mix that fits your shop and still reaches the minimum.
Approve samples and colours
Colours shift between dye lots and between screens and reality. Approve a physical sample or a cut piece of each design, and ask that bulk production stays within the same dye lot per design where possible.
Packing and freight
Rugs are usually rolled, wrapped in polybags and woven polypropylene sacks, with a label showing design, colour, size and quantity. Ask how many pieces fit in a 40-foot container for your size mix; volume, not weight, usually drives freight cost. Consider fire-safety requirements for project carpets and any labelling rules in your country.
Buy from the right mill
TurkLink connects Gulf carpet retailers with Turkish mills that match their quality and price level, and helps manage samples, size mixes and shipping.
