Five documents to request before your first order from a Turkish factory
A quick reference for what to ask for — and what each one is actually protecting you against.
Before any product ships, there are a handful of documents that tell you far more about a supplier than a factory tour or a glossy brochure. Here are the five we ask for on every project, and why each one matters.
1. Certificate of Analysis (COA)
Confirms the actual test results for the specific batch you're buying — purity, moisture content, and other specs relevant to your product. Ask for a COA matched to your order, not a generic one from the website.
2. Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
Required for most chemical and industrial shipments — covers handling, storage, and hazard classification. Your freight forwarder and destination customs will usually ask for this directly.
3. Certificate of Origin
Confirms the product was manufactured in Türkiye — relevant for preferential tariff treatment under trade agreements your country may have with Türkiye.
4. Halal or other product-specific certification
If relevant to your market, confirm the certifying body is recognized in your destination country — not all certificates are accepted everywhere.
5. Export license / capacity confirmation
Confirms the factory is legally set up to export and gives a realistic view of their production capacity against your volume needs.
